The Westerville Division of Police's Chaplain Corps plays a vital role in fulfilling the mission of the Division. The Chaplain Corps consists of clergy members of various faiths from our community. Personal crisis is something that will affect all of us at one point or another. In those times of need it is important to have professionals available that have the training, skills, and personality to provide comfort and guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Accompany officers to assist in death notifications
- Comfort family/friends of victims involved in serious injury accidents
- Consult with individuals who have attempted suicide and their families
- Assist with emotionally distressed individuals
- Aid families struggling with domestic disputes
- Attempt to connect families with their respective pastors
- Respond to any incident involving an injured officer
- Respond to scenes of major disasters
- Provide comfort and guidance to police personnel during time of need
- Attend special functions such as Citizen Police Academy and Youth Police Academy graduations, award ceremonies, dinners, and other social events
Qualifications:
- Must be ordained or licensed clergy and in good standing
- Able to maintain high spiritual and moral standards
- Able to show compassion and understanding of all people
- Must be tactful and show consideration for people of all races, creeds, and religions
- Must be willing to be trained to effectively assist those dealing with crisis
- Must be willing to respond to situations, as needed, 24 hours a day/7 days a week
- Have no prior criminal convictions
